When members of Brooklyn Rider first met the legendary Iranian Kurdish instrumentalist Kayhan Kalhor in 2000 as part of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, they quickly found themselves united by a shared desire for musical exploration and search for understanding. That bond led to the legendary recording of Silent City, a collaboration that Pitchfork called "as good an example as you'll find of a group of musicians achieving ideal balance." The project draws on the musicians' shared experiences to create a boundless exploration of sounds both ancient and contemporary, smoothly bridging traditions between Persia and the West. The evening celebrates a lifelong friendship between Kalhor and Brooklyn Rider, who will be joined by Shawn Conley (bass) and Mathias Kunzli (percussion).
