Over the past 50 years, and nearly as many albums, the legendary Los Mirlos ensemble from Lima, Peru has elevated the art and impact of Amazonian cumbia beyond any other band before or since. Led by music director and group founder Jorge Rodriguez Grández, Los Mirlos's distinctive style of cumbia blends tropical rhythms, Indigenous roots folk and a hint of psychedelic rock for an unmistakable sound that has captivated multiple generations of enthralled listeners. Hits like “La Danza de Los Mirlos” and “Lamento en la Selva” showcase the group's electrifying guitars and infectious percussion. Following a recent performance at the Coachella Festival, the band is primed for a 2025 U.S. breakout as stateside ears begin to catch on to what most of South America already knows. In celebration of the forthcoming North American release of their biographical documentary film Mirlo's Dance, Los Mirlos makes their Lincoln Center debut on the big stage at Summer for the City.
