Presented in collaboration with the México Now Festival

In 2001, Lincoln Center set the scene for the first La Casita, a citywide festival celebrating global oral traditions, poetry, and music, grounded in the principle that New York City is more fully represented through the sweep of artistic traditions found throughout the five boroughs. This summer’s forward-looking theme is "Movement/Bodies in Motion," curated by Gabriel Ramirez, Rich Villar, Mahogany L. Browne, and Claudia Norman. Hosted by boricua poet Elisabet Velasquez, the event will feature readings from Ethiopian-American poet Hiwot Adilow, Black Mexican-American poet Irene Vásquez, Grand Slam winner Marcus Stokes, and Bronx Poet Laureate Kay Poema. La Casita will also showcase musical performances by Nigerian-American Kingsley Ibeneche and, straight from Queens, norteño music and dance by Suspenso del Norte.
