Kei Miller; Eljon Wardally

Caribbean Day at Lincoln Center continues on Hearst Plaza with a poetry reading led by Kei Miller and Eljon Wardally. Miller, the celebrated Jamaican poet, essayist, and novelist, is a winner of the prestigious Forward poetry prize for his collection The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion. His story collection Fear of Stones was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book; and his acclaimed novel, Augustown, was a finalist for the PEN Open Book Award, and won the Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature, the Prix Les Afriques, and the Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde. Eljon Wardally is an award-winning Grenadian Italian-American playwright and screenwriter whose work amplifies underrepresented voices and brings visibility to the unseen. Her play, I Am...a Shepherdess, premiered at the International Black Theatre Festival as part of a commission from the Finding Holy Ground grant. She is the current recipient of the Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin Rolling World Premiere Award. Her upcoming play, Blooming in Dry Season, will debut at NC Black Repertory and New Federal Theatre in 2025 and 2026. Wardally’s storytelling is rooted in a commitment to authenticity, compassion, and social relevance.
