The deeply influential hip-hop producer James "J Dilla" Yancey packed a lifetime of innovation into a career that burned bright and brief, forging essential creative bonds with De La Soul, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, The Roots and Common along the way. Dilla's wildly original compositions and creative vision laid the sonic foundation for the Soulquarian rap-soul revival of the mid-90's and early 2000's. His unique approach to syncopation and unerring ability to mine humanity from lost media reached its peak on Donuts, the 2006 album released just days before Dilla's untimely death at 32. Now, almost exactly 21 years later, the always fresh audio innovators Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber fill the David Rubenstein Atrium with a vibrant celebration and reconsideration of Dilla's incredible legacy. Lineup and special guests TBA.
