Grammy Award-nominated bassist and composer Nilson Matta will bring you into the heart of Brazil! Born in São Paulo, Matta played with such luminaries as João Gilberto, Hermeto Pascoal, Roberto Carlos, Chico Buarque de Holanda, Nana Caymmi, João Bosco, Johnny Alf, Helio Delmiro, and Luis Bonfá. Since his arrival in New York in 1985, he has been the first-call bassist for many renowned U.S. musicians such as Gato Barbieri, Oscar Castro-Neves, Paquito D’Rivera, Don Friedman, Slide Hampton, Joe Henderson, Yo Yo Ma, Herbie Mann, Mark Murphy, Paul Winter, among many others. The evening’s show will feature original compositions by Matta and works by some of Brazil’s greatest composers: Luís Bonfá, Dorival Caymmi, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Charles Mingus “Boogie Stop Shuffle,” and Noel Rosa. With Felipe Gaganni as tap dancer, Brian Lynch on trumpet, Vitor Gonçalves on piano and accordion, and Rafael Barata on drums, the group will transport you with their Baião rhythms!
