Music thrived over generations in San Juan Hill. Many of the musicians who lived and performed in the neighborhood explored the rhythms and sounds of its diverse Afro-Caribbean community, innovating in multiple styles of jazz and Latin music. Explore the range of their musical influence and impact in this playlist, and watch these filmed discussions with live musical demonstration to learn more: Jazz in San Juan Hill: One Neighborhood’s Impact on Music that Made History (1900–1950) and Latin Jazz in New York City (1920–1960).
