The fortieth anniversary season will conclude on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Alice Tully Hall, with a concert of Mozart works. The American Classical Orchestra’s principal bassoonist, Andrew Schwartz, will be featured in the Mozart Bassoon Concerto in Bb Major, K.191. Mozart was a great fan of woodwind instruments, which were often played by his friends, such as his best friend and clarinetist, Anton Stadler. The season will conclude with Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 in D Major, K. 385, “Haffner”. The work was written in 1792 at the request of Mozart’s father, Leopold, to celebrate their friend, Sigmund Haffner’s, elevation to the rank of nobility. It was first performed in March 1793, in the presence of the Austrian Emperor, Franz Joseph II. Of special note, the 57-page original manuscript score of this work is currently housed in New York’s Morgan Library.
