Once Upon a Time in Harlem

In 1972, legendary filmmaker William Greaves gathered an extraordinary group of artists, writers, actors, musicians, and thinkers of the Harlem Renaissance. After more than 50 years, his son David Greaves has completed his breathtaking miracle of a movie.

The American Classical Orchestra presents an evening featuring the Overture to Carl Maria von Weber’s Romantic opera Oberon, inspired by the tale of the fairy king. Swedish composer Franz Berwald’s rarely heard Symphony No. 2, celebrated for its soaring melodies, will receive its U.S. premiere and American debut on period instruments. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, continuing the orchestra’s commemoration of the composer’s death bicentenary.

Each Lincoln Center Presents series and festival delves deeply into one art form, one body of work, or one theme through performance. This year, we invite you to spend the season with groundbreaking trumpeter, composer, educator, and visionary founder of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Wynton Marsalis. Opening up the West Side of Lincoln Center
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Lincoln Center West Initiative opens up the Amsterdam Avenue side of Lincoln Center’s campus, creating a more welcoming edge on the west side. The new design incorporates extensive community feedback from an ongoing participatory process that began in 2023. Features include: welcoming entrance that dramatically opens up Amsterdam Avenue to neighbors approaching from the west; community park featuring a lawn, water feature, tree groves and garden for public enjoyment; and new, world-class amphitheater that will improve artist and audience experiences.
