Composers from Beethoven and Debussy to Meredith Monk and Sofia Gubaidulina provide the perfect soundtrack to one of the most spectacular of cosmic displays: the total solar eclipse.

Parts of the United States will experience this rare phenomenon on Monday, August 21, 2017. The eclipse begins in Lincoln Beach, Oregon at 9:05 am PDT (12:05 pm EDT) and will cross the country diagonally to Charleston, South Carolina, ending at 4:05 EDT. New Yorkers will experience a partial eclipse (75%) or tune in to the NASA livestream. However you watch, hit play as soon as the event begins in your area. And don't forget to protect your eyes!
