In 2017, composer and singer Nia Franklin spent six months at Lincoln Center as a Lincoln Center Education Kenan Fellow. As a Kenan Fellow, she received hands-on training in teaching artistry and community engagement within the arts. In 2018, she won the Miss America competition on a platform of arts advocacy. As Miss America 2019, she has been championing high-quality arts education for every American child. She returned to Lincoln Center in July 2019 to speak with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts president Henry Timms about the importance of arts advocacy in our world today. This talk was a part of Lincoln Center Education’s Summer Forum, a professional development program in arts education that takes place at Lincoln Center every July.
