Randy Newman has had to cancel his forthcoming show in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook on March 26, 2018, due to a severe knee condition for which he needs to undergo surgery. Newman says: “I feel terrible about having to cancel this date. I was looking forward to playing. I apologize for whatever inconvenience I might have caused.” Lincoln Center wishes him a successful and speedy recovery.
Ticket holders should call 212.875.5030 or visit the box office at David Geffen Hall (hours: Monday–Saturday 10:00 am–6:00 pm and Sunday Noon–6:00 pm) for information about refunds and exchanges. The concert will not be rescheduled.
With songs that run the gamut from heartbreaking to satirical and a host of unforgettable film scores, Randy Newman has used his many talents to create musical masterpieces widely recognized by generations of audiences. Over 50 years and 11 solo albums, including last year’s celebrated Dark Matter, Newman “remains first and foremost a craftsman of song, capable of telling ordinary stories in ways no one quite has before” (NPR). There is perhaps no other American singer-songwriter who can transform an audience’s laughter so quickly into tears, often lingering in the emotional gray zone between. With just a grand piano and his familiar voice, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer brings a lifetime of stories and songs to the Rose Theater for one extraordinary evening.
An American musical treasure.
One of American pop's greatest and most acclaimed songwriters for more than a half-century...slippery storytelling, pointed, social observation and rapturous melodies, delivered in a singular, deadpan-Everyman voice.
