With trumpeter Marquis Hill, alto saxophonist Braxton Cook, vibraphonist Joel Ross, bassist Jeremiah Hunt, drummer Jonathan Pinson, and pianist Willie Pickens

Trumpeter Marquis Hill, already a local hero in Chicago, has gained even more recognition throughout the jazz world since winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition in 2014. Hill’s primary band, his Blacktet, is a superb young group with a tightly knit sound representative of their considerable performance experience. With original compositions boasting memorable melodies, exciting solos, and a kinetic, propulsive rhythm section, the Blacktet is an easy recommendation for both classic jazz fans and those interested in contemporary fusions increasingly explored by young, genre-crossing composers. Joining the Blacktet tonight is a very special guest and one of Hill’s personal mentors: 86-year-old pianist Willie Pickens. This extraordinary collaboration will be at Dizzy’s for two nights only, so don’t miss out!
