In the first half of the twentieth century, San Juan Hill was a hotbed of artistic expression, born from the fusion of its extraordinary cultural diversity. The neighborhood's artists responded to the sights, sounds, and social conditions of their urban lives. Through that amalgamation of people and place, they created innovations that have continued to inspire today's artists and makers.

When we reveal our personal histories, we place mementos of our traditions, arts and cultures in close proximity to our neighbors, creating a sense of community and the potential for transformation. Led by theater artists Arminda Thomas and Deneen Reynolds-Knott, RECOLLECTIONS is a collaborative gathering in which participants are invited to share personal stories and objects, creating a communal collage. The project looks beyond towering figures and well-documented events to center the narratives held by everyday people. Join us to explore how sharing memories can build community.

This is a participatory workshop, and attendees should bring ONE of the following:
- a photo of a place: a street, a home, a farm, or a piece of land, that holds deep meaning for your family, or your community
- an item belonging to a loved one showing their membership to an informal or formal group, team, organization, or movement, like a t-shirt, pin, certificate, or newsletter
- an object that holds a family or community story, like a photo, a recipe, an accessory, or memento
